CNBC Poll: Trump’s Lead Shrinks to 1 Point as Disapproval of Biden Remains High


According to CNBC’s All-American Economic Survey, 46% of registered voters favor former President Donald Trump, while 45% support President Joe Biden.

The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, making it a virtual tie between the two candidates. In the December poll, Trump led 48%-42%.

Here is a breakdown of the current survey results:

  • 39% approve of Biden’s job performance, while 56% disapprove.
  • 37% approve of the president’s handling of the economy, compared to 58% who disapprove.
  • 29% approve of Biden’s handling of border security, while 64% disapprove.
  • 54% are pessimistic about the economy, 21% are optimistic, 14% are pessimistic now but optimistic for the future, and 2% are optimistic now but pessimistic for the future.
  • 45% do not believe there will be a recession in the next 12 months, while 32% think there will be.
  • 8% believe the U.S. is already experiencing a recession.
  • 39% believe they will be better off financially if Trump wins, compared to 23% if Biden wins, and 34% say it makes no difference.

Voters perceive Trump as better at handling inflation, the economy, and crime, while Biden is seen as better in healthcare.

The survey, conducted from March 15-19, surveyed 1,001 registered voters.
