Byron Donalds Urges Newsmax: Speaker Johnson Must Stay
With a motion to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson, R, La. gaining support, Rep. Byron Donalds, R, Fla. expressed his backing for keeping Johnson during an interview with Newsmax on Tuesday.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R, Ky. stated on Tuesday morning that he would be co-sponsoring Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate the chair.
“He should pre-announce his resignation (as Boehner did) so we can choose a new Speaker without any period without a GOP Speaker,” Massie said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
However, Donalds asserted in an interview with “National Report” that Congress has too many pressing matters to attend to in a short amount of time.
“Let’s keep calm, focus on the current task at hand,” Donalds stated. “There isn’t much time to dwell on the speaker’s office dynamics.”
Donalds emphasized that top priorities should include border security and support for Israel.
“Other issues can be addressed later on,” Donalds added.
