Pelosi Urges Netanyahu to Step Down

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., recently commented on Israel’s governmental affairs, urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down, stating that he is hindering peace.

Pelosi’s remarks were made during an interview with Irish media outlet RTE while visiting Ireland. This aligns with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who previously expressed similar sentiments and called for new elections in Israel.

“He has been an obstacle for peace for years,” Pelosi stated. “I don’t know if he fears peace, lacks the ability for peace, or simply does not desire peace. But he has impeded the two-state solution.”

In response to the terrorist attack by Iranian-backed Hamas on Oct. 7, Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva, head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Military Intelligence Directorate, resigned. Israel initiated a military operation in Gaza following the attack with the aim of eliminating Hamas and rescuing hostages.

“We acknowledge Israel’s right to self-defense,” Pelosi emphasized. “We denounce Netanyahu’s policies and actions as terrible. What could be worse than his response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attack?”

“First of all, the exposure. His intelligence officer resigned, and he should follow suit. He bears ultimate responsibility.”

These statements were made after the House passed a foreign aid package including $26 billion for Israel and humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza. Pelosi criticized House Republicans for opposing humanitarian aid for Palestinians.

“Joe Biden has been the leading advocate for humanitarian aid to Palestinians,” Pelosi mentioned. “He is the only one advocating at such a level.”
