Republican Party Chair Whatley Tells Newsmax: Republicans Show More Unity Than Democrats
According to Michael Whatley, the chair of the Republican National Committee, Former President Donald Trump has the backing of 97% of Republican voters, as reported by Newsmax on Tuesday.
Discussing the recent meeting between Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on “The National Report,” Whatley mentioned it was the first time the two former rivals met since campaigning for the Republican nomination for president.
“They had a very productive meeting,” Whatley stated. “We are grateful for Ron DeSantis’ support.”
After a disappointing result in the Iowa caucus, DeSantis withdrew from the race and endorsed Trump.
“Governor DeSantis has done an outstanding job in Florida,” Whatley mentioned. “We acknowledge the positive changes in governance that Florida has experienced.”
Even though Nikki Haley dropped out of the race a month ago, she received over 157,000 votes in the closed Pennsylvania Republican primary. Whatley emphasized that despite her support, the Republican Party stands firmly behind Trump.
“The support we are currently receiving from all sectors of the Republican Party is unified,” Whatley affirmed. “Donald Trump enjoys 97% backing from Republican voters, which surpasses the support President Joe Biden has among his base.”
While Whatley expressed hope for Haley’s endorsement of Trump, he highlighted that the Republican Party is more cohesive than the Democrats.
