Burgum Slams Conviction of Trump Over ‘Filing Error’ as ‘Miscarriage of Justice’

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum cautioned that if Democrat prosecutors managed to convict presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for a “business error” dating back to before the 2016 election, it would be a “travesty of justice.” Burgum made these remarks during an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

He argued that paying individuals for non-disclosure agreements is common and not illegal, highlighting that the trial’s true motive is to prevent Trump from returning to the White House and could potentially boost Trump’s chances in the election.

The ongoing prosecution by Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accuses Trump of wrongly categorizing a $130,000 payment to lawyer Michael Cohen as a legal expense to avoid negative publicity during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Burgum emphasized that the trial does not impact average Americans as much as policies like inflation and voiced his belief that most individuals base their opinions on policies rather than the individuals involved.
