Rep. Greene May Initiate Motion to Vacate on Monday

According to a source speaking to Newsmax Senior Congressional Correspondent Kilmeny Duchardt, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., may initiate her motion to vacate the House speakership on Monday.

Prior to filing the motion, Greene is set to meet with Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., at 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday, as reported by Duchardt.

Last Wednesday, Greene announced that she would trigger her motion this week to remove Johnson from the speakership. In March, she officially filed a motion to oust the speaker citing his backing of the $1.2 trillion spending bill.

Greene and other conservatives were urging Congress to prioritize border security before extending foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Expressing her discontent, Greene stated, “We need leaders in the House of Representatives that are going to get this done. Mike Johnson is not capable of that job.”

Despite being a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, Greene’s move contradicts the former president’s wishes.

Trump recently commended Johnson, acknowledging that he is making a genuine effort and is a “very good person.”

In his defense, Johnson responded to Greene’s actions by labeling them as detrimental to the Republican Conference, the institution, and the country.

Democrats perceive Johnson as a potential ally, a conservative figure willing to lead the Republican Party away from far-right influences hindering the government’s routine operations, such as funding and supporting international allies like Ukraine.

New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries and his team released a joint statement advocating for a resolution to the GOP chaos, announcing their intention to vote against Greene’s motion to vacate the speaker’s office, effectively preventing Johnson’s eviction – at least for now.
