House Republicans Push to Undo Biden’s Transgender Protections

House Republicans are challenging the Title IX “violations” imposed by the Biden administration’s rule of federal protections for transgender students.

Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., and 67 of her Republican colleagues are working to reverse the Department of Education’s final rule issued in late April that expands federal law on sex discrimination in schools to include sexual orientation and gender identity for the first time, allowing biological boys and men into women’s locker rooms.

Failing to comply with the new rule could jeopardize federal funding for schools.

Over 20 states have filed lawsuits and legal challenges and issued orders to disregard the changes set to take effect on Aug. 1.

Miller is leading the effort to reverse the rule with a disapproval resolution.

“Joe Biden is eroding the progress women have made in claiming their rights under Title IX. Title IX has protected women and girls for over 50 years, ensuring they have equal opportunities in education,” Miller stated in a news release. “This deviation is a clear violation of the protections that Title IX was designed to provide, undermining women’s rights and security in private spaces.”

The numerous legal challenges initiated by states are likely to prevent the rule changes from taking effect in a few weeks. Former President Donald Trump has promised to reverse it on his first day if re-elected.

“The Biden administration’s final rule dismantles Title IX and wipes out decades of progress for women and girls nationwide. This poses a serious and immediate threat that cannot be overlooked,” stated Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., chair of the Education and the Workforce Committee.
