Kamala Harris chooses to not attend Al Smith dinner
The Concern: Kamala Harris is the first presidential candidate in decades to skip the Al Smith dinner.
The New York Post reported that Vice President Kamala Harris will be the first presidential candidate in 40 years to not attend the Al Smith dinner (“Who’s running this place? Sure not Joe,” by Miranda Devine, Sept. 23).
Devine suggests that Harris’s absence is due to her lack of competency at impromptu events.
As a practicing Catholic, I find her disregard for the Catholic faith and absence from the dinner to be highly offensive.
Pope Francis recently urged Catholics to vote for the lesser evil, a stance that has influenced my decision not to vote for Harris.
I encourage fellow Catholics to follow suit.

The dinner is typically a night of political humor and has remained so.
Harris must learn to face criticism — she will encounter even harsher critiques if she becomes president.

Despite claiming to be a president for all Americans, Harris chose to skip this year’s significant Al Smith dinner.
Could it be that her famous “word salad” is not on the menu?

Kudos to the Editorial Board for calling out the Democratic presidential nominee for skipping such a meaningful event as the Al Smith dinner (“Why Harris Is Dissing Al Smith,” Sept. 23).
Former President Donald Trump might have relished the opportunity to mock Harris with his own “Kamala-logue,” covering instances like falling out of a coconut tree and her love for school buses and Venn diagrams.
If Harris loses the election, perhaps she could explore a career as a late-night host, using her comedic skills to entertain audiences.

Addressing Piers Morgan’s article, “Oh, Kam on, you coward!” (Sept. 24): While Trump may not be a plagiarizer, he could take Morgan’s suggestions for the Al Smith dinner verbatim.
Morgan’s critiques of Kamala are spot-on.

The Concern: First Lady Jill Biden leading a Cabinet meeting in President Biden’s absence.
Once again, the Democrats show disregard for the American people with their patronizing behavior (“Who’s the boss?” Sept. 21)
President Biden began a Cabinet meeting and then abruptly left for Delaware, leaving First Lady Jill Biden in charge.
This sounds like a scene from an old Marx Brothers film, but it actually happened.
This dereliction of duty is shocking and alarming.
Even as their true motives are being revealed, the Democrats continue to show arrogance and disregard for the citizens they are meant to serve.
It seems that retaining power is their only goal.
When November comes, American voters must take action.

Wake me from this nightmare.
Who gave Jill authority?
I don’t recall voting for her in 2020.
The sooner the Biden family returns to Delaware, where Joe can enjoy a permanent vacation, the better.
If the same had occurred in the Republican Party, the outcry would never end.
The Democrats’ arrogance has no bounds.
One wonders how many other meetings Jill was leading.
