Potential Internet and Cellphone Account Changes: Consulting with CRTC
Canada’s telecoms regulator is seeking feedback on how to empower consumers with more control over their internet and cellphone services.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is conducting three consultations until Jan. 9 to gather input on potential changes related to notifications, fees, and self-serve options.
Regarding fees, the CRTC is contemplating prohibiting providers from imposing charges on customers when they cancel or modify plans, aiming to simplify the process for Canadians looking to switch providers.
In terms of notifications, they are exploring strategies to ensure that individuals are informed when their plans or discounts are nearing expiration to prevent unexpected bill increases.
The CRTC is also investigating the possibility of introducing self-serve options for customers who need to modify or terminate their plans, making these actions more convenient.
Additionally, upcoming consultations will focus on enhancing the ability to compare plans when shopping for internet services.
