Andy Biggs, Representative, accuses Fani Willis of using federal funds for ‘swag and trips’ in interview with Newsmax

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., told Newsmax on Monday that Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis apparently spent federal funds on “swag” and “trips,” and House Republicans have served her with a subpoena to determine where the money went.

“It should be a public hearing, but we’ll give her an opportunity in private first, and also, we want the documents,” Biggs said during an appearance on “Wake Up America.” “That’s primarily what the subpoena is about is to give us the documentation to show where the federal funding went, which is why I introduced my bill the Willis Act, which says you got to give us back the federal money.”

“It looks like they took federal funds, and they diverted at least a portion of those federal funds,” he continued. “So, you got one for a youth center, for instance, never opened to this day. One of her chief deputies, saying, ‘We’re going to use it to get swag, go on trips; we’re going to use it for iPads.’ … So, we need to find out where all of that money went. That’s the purpose of the subpoenas.”

On Friday, House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan issued Willis a subpoena ordering her to turn over documents from her office after allegations surfaced that she fired a whistleblower who was sounding the alarm about a top campaign aide’s misuse of federal money.

Willis is prosecuting former President Donald Trump in a sweeping racketeering case involving 18 co-defendants that she claims attempted to interfere in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.

When asked if he expected Willis to cooperate, Biggs said, “She really doesn’t have any grounds to put up a fight, as far as I can see.”

“It’s federal dollars — we’re entitled to oversight,” he said. “She’s got to give us that documentation, and I think she’s going to respond.”

In order to stay on the Trump case, Biggs said that Willis is going to argue “that her judgment was not impeded by the fact that she was having an illicit relationship with the chief deputy, or the outside counsel, that she hired, who was her paramour.”

“She’s going to say, ‘We had perfect independent judgment so it had nothing to do with the prosecution over Donald Trump,'” he said. “And that’s really just simply not going to be the case because his judgment is going to be impacted and affected because he’s getting paid big bucks by the woman he’s sleeping with, and so that’s going to be undercut by that argument there. Then she’s got to deal with the other stuff which gets to her ethical qualifications, such as misuse of federal dollars for private perks and benefits.”
