Blaine Holt’s Discussion with Newsmax: Paris Stabbings Serve as a ‘Cautionary Tale’

The United States should be watching reports about Saturday’s terrorist stabbing in Paris closely as a “cautionary tale” about the dangers of what could happen, retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier Gen. Blaine Holt told Newsmax Sunday.

“There are groups in cells all over Europe that are ready to activate and do things,” Holt, a former NATO deputy U.S. military representative, said on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” “This looks more like a terrorist-inspired attack and that’s another whole category of threats that Europe has to deal with now.”

Saturday, a German tourist was killed and two people were injured after they were attacked by a man armed with a knife and hammer near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Police arrested the stabber, a French national, and French President Emmanuel Macron called the incident a terrorist attack.

“They all come to the same common denominator,” Holt said. “A lack of security, a lack of border security. It’s all over Europe. They have very lax rules about law enforcement and locking people up. Does that sound familiar?”

Holt said he hates seeing what’s happening in Europe, but added that “if you’re an American living here, you better look at this as the future because this is our future. If we don’t take our own security very seriously.”

Retired U.S. Army Col. Bill Connor, also on Sunday’s program, said he believes it’s “kind of sad” to see Macron “backing off his support for Israel,” adding that Hungary is the only European nation he sees taking a hard stance against Hamas.

“I think that’s because of the way the Hungarians have really done a good job with the immigration control in their own nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Holt commented on a video released by the Israel Defense Forces showing a Hamas tunnel entry outside a school in northern Gaza, and said the IDF’s mission in Gaza is the “hardest kind of warfare there is on the planet” because of the proximity of targets near civilian areas.

“The IDF is doing everything they can,” he said. “They’re dropping leaflets. They’re going into neighborhoods They’re telling folks, you better get out of here. They have highlighted and discovered over 800 tunnel entry points. There are a lot of them near these civilian soft targets.”

Another problem is that many of the Palestinians are “very sympathetic to Hamas” and help them hide weapons in civilian areas, he added.

“You’ve got to have a Ph.D. level to pick this apart,” said Holt. “These are very dangerous missions for them.”

There is also the added danger of Iran becoming more involved, he said, as that country is making threats for the attacks endured in Syria and on their supply chains.”

Meanwhile, Israel recalled its hostage negotiators from Qatar this weekend, and Hamas is saying it won’t give back hostages until Israel ends the war. Connor said Israel must keep up with its mission to destroy Hamas.

“Hamas has just gone over the edge,” he said. “They’re a danger not only to Israel but the stability of the entire region.”

Holt commented that he would go after Hamas’s money supplies.

“The Hamas leaders are billionaires,” he said. “They’re hanging out in Qatar and they’re getting that money from somewhere…if you can cut that you’re going to find that those guys aren’t worth much in their street market value, and then Qatar might offer them up.”
