CBS News/YouGov Poll Finds Majority of Americans Favor IVF
According to a recent poll conducted by CBS News/YouGov, 86% of Americans support the legality of IVF for women, while only 14% believe it should be illegal.
The poll was conducted from Feb. 28 to March 1, following a controversial decision by the Alabama Supreme Court regarding frozen embryos being classified as children. In response, lawmakers in Alabama introduced legislation to protect IVF services by providing lawsuit protections to clinics offering the service. Alabama’s Republican governor, Kay Ivey, has signaled her intention to sign the bill into law.
In light of the Alabama ruling, legislators have introduced conflicting bills to gain political advantage. Senator Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat from Illinois, put forth a bill to safeguard access to IVF nationwide, but it was blocked by Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi.
Former President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the IVF issue, expressing his support for strong American families and making it easier for parents to have children rather than harder.
