The Senate has officially confirmed Chris Wright, the CEO of Liberty Energy, as the new head of the Energy Department.

On Monday, Wright received confirmation through a 59-38 vote, taking on the role of energy secretary.
Several senators, including Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), and Independent Senator Angus King (I-Maine), joined Republicans in voting for his confirmation.
“He’s a scientist who has dedicated his life to energy. While he is an enthusiastic proponent of fossil fuels, he has also studied nuclear energy,” Hickenlooper stated during the confirmation hearing. “His early career included work in solar energy, and he has experience in wind energy as well.”
As the head of the Energy Department, Wright will oversee energy research initiatives as well as the nation’s nuclear weapons program.
Supporters of Wright celebrated his confirmation, including Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, who remarked that Wright’s leadership will bolster America’s energy future.
“I am optimistic that we can undo the misguided policies of the Biden administration and focus on affordable and dependable energy. Under his guidance, the Department of Energy will prioritize the American worker, families, and future,” Lee asserted.
