Congressmen express strong concern over AP’s labeling of Hamas
Oct. 8, 1997 saw the U.S. State Department designate Hamas as a foreign terror organization. On the almost 26th anniversary of the designation, Hamas terrorists caused casualties and kidnapped Israelis and foreign nationals, taking them to the Gaza Strip.
In 1990, FBI Director William Sessions stated that the bureau rejected the idea that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, emphasizing that terrorists targeted innocent civilians.
The Associated Press, in its “Israel-Hamas topical guide,” refers to Hamas terrorists as “militants.” They stormed into Israeli towns and killed hundreds of civilians, according to the AP.
The AP refuses to use the terms “terrorism” and “terrorist,” opting for more detailed descriptions of events and actions.
In response, 16 members of Congress penned a letter to the AP CEO expressing concern about this decision. They believe it provides cover for heinous acts to be accepted.
Additionally, the AP advises reporters not to refer to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, as the Palestinians view annexed east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
