DeSantis Vows Legal Action Against Prosecutors Supported by Soros Funding for Civil Rights Cases

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday night that as president, he would use the Department of Justice to bring civil rights cases against “left-wing Soros-funded prosecutors” to stop rising urban crime in the nation.

“As president, I will use the Justice Department to bring civil rights cases against all of those left-wing Soros-funded prosecutors,” DeSantis said during the Republican National Committee Debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in California. “We’re not going to let them get away with it anymore. We want to reverse this country’s decline. We need to choose the law and order over rioting and disorder.”

DeSantis said the rising crime rates in America’s big cities is one of the biggest indicators that the country is in decline.

“The crime in the cities is one of the strongest signs of the decaying of America. We can’t be successful as a country if people aren’t even safe to live in places like Los Angeles and San Francisco,” he said. “Just being in Southern California over the last couple of days, my wife and I have met three people who have been mugged on the street. That would have never happened 10 or 20 years ago.”

He touted his state’s record decrease in crime and being on the side of law enforcement as a blueprint for the country to follow suit.

“In Florida, we back the blue. We support the men and women of law enforcement. They are keeping us safe. We have a 50-year low in the crime rate,” he said. “And yes, when I had two progressive prosecutors that weren’t following the law in Florida, I removed them from their posts and the people of Florida are safer as a result of it.”

DeSantis suspended Tampa Bay area prosecutor Andrew Warren in 2022 for saying he would not bring charges against those violating the state’s 15-week abortion ban, and then suspended Orlando’s Democratic prosecutor Monique Worrell in August after a man with eight felonies and 11 misdemeanors as a juvenile went on a shooting spree that killed three people, including a 9-year-old girl and a local television journalist, NBC News reported in August.

“Prosecutors have a duty to faithfully enforce the law. One’s political agenda cannot trump this solemn duty, refusing to faithfully enforce the laws of Florida puts our communities in danger and victimizes innocent Floridians,” DeSantis said during a press conference announcing the suspension.

According to the report, both suspended prosecutors received money during their respective 2020 campaigns from a political committee contributed to by Democratic billionaire donor George Soros.
