First Georgia Co-defendant Challenges March Trial Date
Former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark is opposing the proposed March trial date in the 2020 election case involving former President Donald Trump. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has indicted Trump and 18 others on charges related to interfering with the 2020 election. Clark is charged with racketeering and criminal attempt to commit false statements and writings. Clark’s attorney argues that the proposed trial date is premature and raises concerns about the prosecution. They also suggest that Clark may seek to have the case moved to federal court or claim immunity due to his role at the DOJ. They raise concerns about the political nature of the case and suggest the trial date is an attempt to try Trump before the 2024 presidential election.
