Fred Fleitz Calls Sanctioning IDF Battalion by Newsmax ‘Outrageous’
The United States considering sanctions against a battalion of the Israel Defense Forces over alleged human rights violations in the occupied West Bank is described as “outrageous” by Fred Fleitz, a National Security Council chief of staff under former President Donald Trump, on Newsmax Sunday.
“The idea that we would be sanctioning Israeli soldiers while they are at war with a terrorist organization is just outrageous, but it’s par for the course for this incompetent president,” Fleitz commented on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” with retired U.S. Air Force Col. Rob Maness.
Axios reported that Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to announce sanctions against the IDF’s “Netzah Yehuda” battalion within days.
The State Department investigated the battalion in late 2022 following allegations of violent acts against Palestinians, including the death of 80-year-old Palestinian-American Omar Assad.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized the sanctions, calling them absurd and morally wrong.
Regarding the Biden administration’s stance on civilian deaths in the conflict between Hamas and Israel, Maness believes it is more political rhetoric than genuine concern.
Discussing the Ukraine aid package passed in the House, Maness suggests it is a political problem and highlights the need for a diplomatic solution to the conflict with Russia.
Fleitz, on the other hand, views the aid as crucial for Ukraine to avoid defeat by Russia, emphasizing the necessity of providing support.
Looking ahead, Fleitz expresses optimism for a resolution to the conflict once Donald Trump returns to office in 2025, criticizing Biden’s leadership.
