Haley highlights Biden’s ‘Controversial Remarks on Race’

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s campaign hit back at President Joe Biden, who has needled her several times over her controversial comments on the Civil War, over his “racially problematic comments” in the past.

Haley was asked during a recent town hall in New Hampshire about what was the cause of the Civil War and was criticized for not mentioning slavery in her response

During a recent appearance at an African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina, Biden took an apparent swipe at Haley with the remark, “Let me be clear, for those who don’t seem to know: Slavery was the cause of the Civil War.”

Haley campaign communications director Nachama Soloveichik said in a press release: “Before the media rubber stamps Biden’s politicized racial speech, it should take a look at his long and controversial record. If a Republican made the same comments, the media would lose its mind. It’s time to hold Joe Biden to the same standard.”

The release included a list of Biden’s “Racial Comments and Actions,” including his past opposition to busing, his comment that busing would make his children grow up in “a racial jungle” and his asking in 1975 if “the only way a black man or woman can learn is if they rub shoulders with my white child?”

It also notes that Biden said in 2006, “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.”

The release also mentions Biden’s 22-minute eulogy at the 2010 memorial service for the late Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., a former member of the Ku Klux Klan in his youth.
