Haley’s Strong Showing in Maryland, West Virginia, and Nebraska Chips Away at Trump’s Support

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who dropped out of the GOP presidential nomination race in March, garnered significant shares of Republican primary votes in three states on Tuesday.

In Maryland, Haley received 20% of the vote, while former President Donald Trump got 80%, according to The Hill.

In Nebraska, she secured 18% of the vote, with 80.1% going to Trump, and in West Virginia, she attained 9.4% of the vote, with the remaining 88.4% going to the former president.

Haley, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump for two years, also received votes in other states, including 21.7% in Indiana and over 150,000 votes in Pennsylvania last month.

While there have been rumors that Trump might consider her as a running mate, he vehemently denied those reports, stating that she is “not under consideration.”

Following her withdrawal from the race, Haley has not endorsed Trump, unlike several other former candidates who have backed his campaign. She emphasized that he must earn the support of her voters.

President Joe Biden has signaled that there is a “place” for Haley’s supporters to back his reelection bid, as he believes “Donald Trump made it clear he doesn’t want” them.

A recent private donor event in South Carolina saw Haley meet with her top donors, where she refrained from endorsing Trump and did not encourage her supporters to back his campaign, as per a report by Politico.

During the event, it was disclosed that Haley’s campaign and super PAC had raised a total of $162 million, with $82 million coming from the super PAC and $80 million from hard dollar donations. Federal Election Commission figures revealed that Haley’s campaign still had $11.5 million in funds at the end of February, a month before she exited the race.
