Hillary Clinton Endorses Jamaal Bowman’s Opponent

Hillary Clinton has thrown her endorsement behind Westchester County Executive George Latimer in the New York House primary, going against incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman. This endorsement comes shortly after Bowman, a member of the Squad, accused Latimer of racism.

“With Trump on the ballot, we need strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever,” stated Clinton, the former Democratic presidential nominee in 2016 and ex-secretary of state, in a post on her X account on Wednesday. “In Congress, @LatimerforNY will defend abortion rights, challenge the NRA, and uphold President Biden’s agenda — just as he always has.”

In response, Latimer expressed gratitude for Clinton’s endorsement, saying that her voice adds momentum to their campaign. He emphasized their commitment to values and delivering results for the communities they serve, according to Politico.

As the first day of early primary voting looms, Latimer’s campaign highlighted Clinton’s endorsement along with support from local labor groups and leaders.

Clinton’s endorsement intensifies the rivalry between Latimer and Bowman. Bowman, endorsed by prominent figures like Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, accused Latimer of being under the influence of racist Republican billionaires. He also alleged that Latimer is anti-Black and anti-Muslim.

The campaign also delves into Bowman’s vote against a bipartisan infrastructure plan endorsed by President Joe Biden. Bowman defended his decision, stating it did not have a significant impact on the law’s passage and that he advocated more for social spending.

The Israel-Hamas conflict is another point of contention in the Bowman-Latimer race. Pro-Israel group AIPAC is backing Latimer, arguing that Bowman’s views on Israel do not align with mainstream Democrats.
