“We’re heading toward a $5 trillion increase in debt; that’s what’s happening with Republicans advancing this legislation, which also proposes $110 billion in unpaid expenditures because you lack the integrity to campaign on a balanced budget, yet here you are passing an unpaid-for $110 billion,” Roy remarked about the new bill. “It’s an embarrassment. It’s shameful. Yes, I think this bill has improvements over the previous iteration, but to congratulate yourselves on its shorter length while simultaneously increasing the debt by $5 trillion is completely irrational, which is exactly what Republicans are doing,” Roy emphasized.

Conversely, Reps. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) did vote in favor of the funding bill, even though it ultimately failed.

Following a private meeting Thursday, Democrats emerged unified in their opposition to the proposal and expressed their frustration at Republicans for abandoning the previously agreed-upon bipartisan plan filled with ‘pork.’

Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries commented on the new continuing resolution.

“The Musk-Johnson proposal lacks seriousness. It’s laughable. Extreme MAGA Republicans are pushing us toward a government shutdown,” Jeffries remarked.

Additionally, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) voiced his opinion on the tumultuous day.

“To present this proposal, which discards numerous crucial elements of the agreement, is disrespectful and insulting, especially since they didn’t even consult with our leadership,” Raskin stated.
