House Republicans Propose Renaming Dulles Airport in Honor of Trump
A group of House Republicans recently introduced a bill, although with little chance of passing, to rename Washington Dulles International Airport after former President Donald Trump. The bill’s sponsor, Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., stated, “In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing, ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”
Co-sponsors of the bill include Reps. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., Chuck Fleischmann, R-Tenn., Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., Troy Nehls, R-Texas, and Barry Moore, R-Ala.
Despite the bill being unlikely to gain traction in the slim Republican controlled House, it is expected to be rejected in the Senate.
Democrats in the House, including Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., and Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., criticized the proposal, with Connolly suggesting that if anything were to be named after Trump, it should be a federal prison.
Dulles Airport in Virginia is currently named after Republican John Foster Dulles, the former Secretary of State under President Dwight Eisenhower.
