Mark Green tells Newsmax that a trial for Mayorkas is unlikely

Reps. Mark Green, R-Tenn., and Mike Ezell, R-Miss., spoke with Newsmax on Tuesday and shared that Senate Democrats are likely to avoid holding an impeachment trial for Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to divert attention from immigration and the border.

Green, who leads the House Homeland Security Committee and serves as one of the House impeachment managers, mentioned on “Wake Up America” that articles of impeachment against Mayorkas will be presented to the Senate on Tuesday afternoon, although he expressed skepticism about an actual trial.

Sources informed NPR that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is anticipated to back a motion to dismiss the charges, which would require a simple majority to pass. Another possibility for Senate Democrats is to refer the articles to a committee for review, effectively thwarting the proposal.

Green emphasized, “The first step will be to deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate and read them aloud, which is slated to happen at approximately 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday.”

He also predicted that Senate Democrats will “likely move to table it right away” to prevent discussions about the border situation, stating that a trial in the Senate is unlikely to occur.

Ezell, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and vice chair of the subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability, added that Democrats are keen to avoid media attention on this issue, as they are committed to highlighting Mayorkas’ alleged failures in fulfilling his duties.
