Moreno Tells Newsmax: DeWine Can Easily Pass Ohio Trans Bill

Ohio’s House Bill 68, also known as the Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act, would have been the “easiest signature bill” for Gov. Mike DeWine, but he chose instead to veto it, Bernie Moreno, who is running as a Republican to represent the state in the U.S. Senate, told Newsmax Friday.

“We have to agree that men can’t play in women’s sports,” Moreno, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Sen. JD Vance, and Rep. Jim Jordan, said on “Newsline.” “We also shouldn’t allow children to get mutilated for life under the age of 18. We don’t allow them to drink or get a driver’s license or allow them to own a gun … it’s an easy bill. I’m hopeful that the legislature will override this bill and let’s protect children.”

DeWine last week issued an executive order banning transgender surgeries from being performed on minors, but the week before vetoed the House bill, which also would have banned the surgeries as well as hormone therapies and puberty blockers.

Moreno also spoke out against illegal immigration and the border, pointing out that he came to the United States with his family from Ecuador when he was only five years old.

“[There are] 8.5 million people coming to this country illegally over the last three years of Joe Biden,” he said. “We don’t know who they are. We don’t even know where they are or what their intentions are in Ohio. We’re seeing it in places like Springfield, Ohio, with the health system, about 20% of the cost is going to take care of illegal immigrants.”

Further, fentanyl has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans over the last three years and is the number-one source of deaths among young people in Ohio, Moreno said.

“We have to secure our border,” he said. “We have to prevent this invasion. I think what we’re allowing in Washington. D.C., quite frankly, is treasonous. We should have our elected leaders make certain that they’re putting the interests of America first, and they’re not doing that.”

He added that legal immigrants such as himself find illegal migration “more offensive” than many native-born Americans do, “because we honored the proper process.”

“It’s a privilege to come to America,” he said. “What we’re seeing happen with this illegal immigration situation is completely disgusting. We need to put an end to it. Congress has to do its job, too. We have to reform our asylum laws.”
