Napolitano Tells Newsmax: Weaknesses in Case Against Trump

Former president Donald Trump’s trial began in New York City with opening arguments on Monday. Former judge Andrew Napolitano shared with Newsmax the weaknesses in the prosecution’s case that the defense should exploit.

Accused of paying hush money to a porn star during his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump appeared at a New York courthouse on Monday.

Napolitano pointed out credibility issues with key prosecution witnesses such as Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels during an interview on “National Report”.

“Cohen has a conviction for deception and served time for it,” Napolitano stated. “Trump’s legal team should focus on this weakness.”

Napolitano emphasized that the case against Trump is a complex white-collar matter that federal prosecutors chose not to pursue.

“They believed a jury would not accept a prosecution based on these statutes,” Napolitano explained. “It’s not as clear-cut as a bank robbery where you see the masked robber with the bag of cash.”

The defense should also highlight the unusual nature of trying a former president and presumptive Republican nominee for president during a general election campaign, according to Napolitano.
