New York Attorney General James Criticizes Trump Before Final Arguments

New York’s state attorney general has filed a court document stating that Donald Trump should be permanently banned from the real estate industry due to “outrageous” fraud. This comes ahead of closing arguments in a civil case against the former U.S. president.

New York Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump of using “myriad deceptive schemes” to “inflate asset values and conceal facts” in a way that cannot be innocent explained.

In response, Trump’s lawyers argued that the state has failed to show any real-world impact from Trump’s financial statements to banks, despite a judge determining that Trump overstated his net worth by billions of dollars.

Closing arguments for both sides will take place on Thursday, with a verdict expected at a later date from Justice Arthur Engoron, the judge presiding over the case. The outcome could potentially result in Trump losing valuable real estate assets.

The case is part of a series of legal troubles that Trump faces as he campaigns for the 2024 elections. Despite this, his lead over Republican rivals remains strong.

During the trial, Trump and his children, Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka, denied any significant involvement with Trump’s financial statements. Ivanka Trump is not a defendant in the case.

In a separate legal battle, Engoron ordered the dissolution of companies controlling Trump’s key New York properties, including Trump Tower and 40 Wall Street. However, this order is currently on hold as Trump appeals the decision.

Trump is also facing legal challenges in Washington, Georgia, Florida, and New York over various issues such as election tampering, handling of classified documents, and hush money payments. He has pleaded not guilty in all cases.
