NYPD Enforces Zero Tolerance Policy at Sunday’s Israel Day Parade
The New York Police Department is implementing a zero tolerance policy towards maintaining law and order amidst the ongoing anti-Israel protests in America.
According to the New York Post, the NYPD has instructed officers to arrest any protesters who attempt to breach the police barriers at Sunday’s Israel Day Parade in Manhattan.
An internal memo obtained by the Post stated, “Any spectator who tries to enter the restricted area between the barriers or onto the parade route must be immediately arrested for trespass. There will be no warnings and officers should not wait for legal personnel to arrive.”
However, officers were also instructed not to infringe on the freedom of speech of both sides. The memo clarified, “To the extent that a spectator is expressing a message that may be deemed offensive, it is protected speech and cannot be the basis for enforcement.”
The Israel Day Parade, an annual celebration of the Jewish state, has gained significance following the recent terrorist attacks in Israel and the ongoing conflict with Hamas, leading to protests and unrest globally.
Israeli officials emphasize that Israel’s actions are in response to Hamas’ threats against Jews and the attacks carried out by the group. Attendees at the parade are being screened with metal detectors, and items like backpacks, umbrellas, chairs, blankets, coolers, and drones are prohibited along the route, as per the NYPD memo.
The memo also stated, “Regarding banners or large flags, the only concern is whether they obstruct the view of others. The content or meaning of the banner or flag is irrelevant.”
