Official Records: District Attorney Willis and Wade Coordinated Travel During Investigation into Trump

Special prosecutor Nathan Wade reportedly bought airline tickets for himself and Democrat Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to travel together on trips to San Francisco, Miami and the Caribbean, while they were investigating former President Donald Trump in a Georgia election interference case, court documents revealed Friday.

Detailed credit card statements of the purchases were contained in a motion filed on behalf of Joycelyn Wade in her divorce proceedings against Nathan Wade in Cobb County Superior Court. Joycelyn Wade’s legal team was responding to a motion by Willis to quash the subpoena requesting her to testify Jan. 23 as a witness in the divorce proceedings.

The statements underscore allegations that Nathan Wade and Willis have been involved romantically since before she hired him Nov. 1, 2021. Nathan Wade filed for divorce the next day, according to Joycelyn Wade’s motion, which also contends the two had been linked romantically before he was hired.

The statements also support findings in a motion filed on behalf of Mike Roman, a former Trump campaign official and one of the 14 remaining a co-defendants in the case. Roman’s motion claimed the prosecution “is invalid and unconstitutional because the Fulton County district attorney never had legal authority to appoint the special prosecutor, who assisted in obtaining both grand jury indictments.”

It also claimed Wade, a private attorney, paid for lavish vacations he took with Willis using the Fulton County funds his law firm received. The motion showed Wade, who has played a prominent role in the case, has reportedly been paid nearly $700,000 in legal fees since January 2022.

Joycelyn Wade’s legal team attached credit card statements to its motion filed Friday that showed:

— On Oct. 4, 2022, Wade purchased American Airlines tickets to Miami for himself, Willis, and Clara Bowman, who is believed to be Wade’s mother and who traveled from Texas, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The three tickets cost a combined $1,367. That same day, he paid more than $2,600 to Royal Caribbean Cruises.

— On Oct. 5, 2022, Wade spent approximately $3,800 with Vacation Express, a company that offers vacation packages and tours. Wade, Willis and Bowman arrived in Miami on Oct. 28, according to flight records reviewed by the Journal-Constitution.

— According to the flight records, Wade paid for airfare to travel with Willis from Miami to Aruba. Bowman stayed in Miami and returned to Texas on Oct. 31. There were additional charges on the card of $370 for the Hyatt Regency in Aruba on Nov. 4 and $3,173 to Norwegian Cruise Line on Nov. 7.

— On April 25, 2023, Wade paid $817.80 to purchase Delta Air Lines tickets to San Francisco in his and Willis’ names, although they do not show when the flight was taken. But according to the statements, from May 12-14, he spent $353.53 on Uber rides, and on May 14, he spent $840.22 for what appears to be a stay at the DoubleTree hotel in Napa Valley, California.

Willis said last weekend the affair accusations are racially motivated because the claims were mounted against her and Wade and not against the two other prosecutors in the case — who are white.

Willis’ attorney and attorneys for Joycelyn Wade and Nathan Wade didn’t immediately return requests by multiple media organizations for comment Friday.
