Pelosi Refuses to Recommend Debate with Trump
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., stated on Wednesday that she would not recommend sharing a stage with former President Donald Trump in a debate, following announcements from CNN and ABC regarding debates between Trump and President Joe Biden.
The Biden campaign confirmed on Wednesday that the president has accepted invitations from CNN and ABC to participate in two live televised debates against Trump, who also agreed to participate.
When asked for her thoughts on the matter, Pelosi told CNN in a video posted on X: “I personally would not recommend being on stage with Donald Trump, but the president has chosen to do so. I believe the proposed format is a good one.”
Pelosi suggested having “separate town hall meetings” for the candidates instead of traditional debates, as she believes this would give voters the opportunity to ask questions about the future.
CNN’s Manu Raju also quoted Pelosi in a post on his X account expressing concerns about Trump’s behavior on stage, citing his behavior towards Hillary Clinton during the 2016 debates as unpresidential.
