Pete King Tells Newsmax: Protective Order Seen as ‘Another Opportunity’ for Trump
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has sought a protective order to prevent former President Donald Trump and his lawyers from sharing discovery materials from his trial on the 2020 election charges with unauthorized individuals. Former Rep. Pete King believes that the DOJ is attempting to “take another shot” at Trump. He views the DOJ’s request as a stunt and believes that the law should have some restrictions but doesn’t think a protective order is warranted. Trump’s attorneys requested three additional days to prepare their response to the order, which King believes was unfair. King acknowledges that Trump often uses his social media platform to attack others and acknowledges that his rhetoric can be problematic. However, he sees this as political rhetoric rather than a genuine threat. King believes that the DOJ’s actions are a political gift to Trump, as they want to tie up his campaign and prevent him from responding effectively. He also suspects that the goal of the DOJ’s actions is to use Jan. 6 footage against Trump if he becomes the nominee in the future. King predicts that, despite any bias, Trump will eventually prevail.
