Poll: Biden Perceived as Ineffective Military Leader in Rasmussen Survey

Amid America’s increasing involvement in global conflicts and the U.S. armed forces struggling to meet recruitment goals, a majority of likely voters do not perceive President Joe Biden as a strong military leader.

According to a recent poll by Rasmussen released on Tuesday, 53% of likely voters consider President Joe Biden a weak commander in chief compared to most recent presidents. Only 24% believe Biden is a stronger commander in chief, and 20% view him similarly to other presidents.

In December, Army Maj. Gen Johnny K. Davis testified before Congress, describing the current military recruitment situation as “one of the toughest” he has seen in over three decades. While opinions differ on the reasons for the recruitment shortfall, the overall voter sentiment is that the military is facing challenges. 76% of likely voters are concerned that recruitment issues could impact U.S. military readiness, while 22% are not concerned.

More Republicans (55%) than Democrats (30%) express significant concern that the military’s recruitment shortfall will affect battlefield readiness.

The phone and online survey of 1,114 likely U.S. voters was conducted on March 18-20, with a sampling error of 3 percentage points.
