Poll: California Senate Race Shows Congressman Schiff in the Lead, According to LA Times
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., holds a narrow 4-point lead in the state’s primary for U.S. Senate over his closest rival, Rep. Katie Porter, D-Calif., according to a poll by the Los Angeles Times/UC Berkely Institute of Governmental Studies.
Here are how the results, released Friday, break down for the March 5 primary:
- 21% of likely voters say they back Schiff.
- 17% say they favor Porter.
- 13% say they support former Los Angeles Dodgers star Steve Garvey, a Republican.
- 9% say they back Rep. Barbara Lee, a Democrat.
- About 20% selected one of the 23 other candidates on the ballot. The remainder said they were undecided.
The top two vote-getters will compete in November regardless of party affiliation, the Times noted.
The poll, conducted Jan. 4-8, surveyed 4,470 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
