Poll Results Show 80% of Participants Want Speaker Johnson to Remain in Position
A recent survey by Monmouth University shows that 80% of Americans support House Speaker Mike Johnson in keeping his position, and Democrats are viewing him more favorably compared to last year when he assumed the role.
Johnson’s approval rating saw a slight increase following the House’s recent passing of a bipartisan foreign aid package for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, as reported by The Hill. Currently, 21% approve of his performance, with 34% disapproving and 45% expressing no opinion.
These numbers reflect a 4-percentage-point increase since December when Johnson had a 17% approval rating and a 34% disapproval rating.
Additionally, the survey indicates that 12% of Democrats now have a more positive view of Johnson, up from 3% in December.
While Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has made moves to challenge Johnson’s position by introducing a motion to vacate in March, support from other Republicans like Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Paul Gosar of Arizona has been limited.
Despite the overall positive response from Americans, Johnson’s disapproval rating among Republicans has risen from 5% to 19% since December, although his approval rating among party members remains relatively unchanged at 36%.
The poll conducted had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
