Pro-Life Group Meets with Trump to Discuss Federal Abortion Restrictions

Former President Donald Trump met with a representative from the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America following a previous disagreement with the nonprofit group.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said in a Monday press release that she and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and others had a “terrific meeting” with Donald Trump.

“During the meeting, President Trump reiterated his opposition to the extreme Democratic position of abortion on demand, up until the moment of birth, paid for by taxpayers – and even in some cases after the child is born,” Dannenfelser said in her statement.

“President Trump knows the vast majority of Americans oppose brutal late-term abortions when the child can feel pain and suck their thumbs,” Dannenfelser went on.

The statement does not specify which federal restrictions on abortion were discussed; however, Graham introduced a bill that would legalize abortion nationwide during the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.

“President Trump reiterated that any federal legislation protecting these children would need to include the exceptions for [the] life of the mother and in cases of rape and incest,” Dannenfelser said. “Protecting unborn children capable of feeling pain would align America with the civilized world and with 47 out of 50 European nations.

“President Trump believes such a position is unworthy of a great nation and believes the American people will rebel against such a radical position that aligns us with China and North Korea.”

The meeting comes several weeks after Dannenfelser criticized the Trump campaign’s assertion that abortion restrictions should be left solely to the states as a “morally indefensible position.”

Graham posted to Twitter echoing the pro-life group’s assessment of the meeting, saying, “Great meeting today with President Trump, @sbaprolife and @tperkins. I look forward to working with them to protect the unborn.”

Significant Trump Supporter

In 2016 and 2020, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America was a significant financial supporter of Trump. During the 2016 campaign, Dannenfelser served as the national chairwoman of the Trump Pro-life Coalition.

However, fellow pro-life Republican Nikki Haley has also thrown her hat in the 2024 presidential ring, offering a number of choices for pro-life groups and voters.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has also taken a strong pro-life stance, telling The Epoch Times on April 22 at the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition that he is “unapologetically pro-life.”

The biotech entrepreneur was clear about how he thinks abortion should be dealt with saying, “I think abortion is a form of murder. Murder is dealt with through state law, not federal law. I think we should be consistent about that. That’s what the Constitution demands.”
