Rep. Burchett tells Newsmax: Johnson’s removal is simply a numbers game

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s ouster is viewed as a numbers game according to Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., who shared with Newsmax that he believes it’s “not a great idea.”

During an interview on “Wake Up America,” Burchett expressed confidence in Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., to gauge support for removing the Louisiana lawmaker, cautioning that it could come with consequences.

“The push to replace Johnson stems from conservatives unhappy with his compromise with Democrats on an aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan,” Burchett explained.

“Thomas Massie is a rocket scientist,” Burchett noted. “He attended MIT, he’s well-versed in numbers. I expect he will wait for the right moment and act accordingly.”

However, Burchett warned that the removal of Johnson could inadvertently benefit the Democrats by giving them control of the gavel.

Expressing his skepticism about the idea, Burchett remarked, “I believe it may lead to some Republicans in Democratic districts caving and turning towards [Minority Leader] Hakeem Jeffries [D-N.Y.], advancing the Marxist agenda swiftly.”

Burchett also criticized the passage of the aid bill for Ukraine, questioning the lack of a clear victory plan and expressing concerns about where the funds will go.

Regarding conservatives pushing for Johnson’s removal without solid backing, Burchett emphasized the importance of waiting for Massie to gather sufficient support before taking action.
