Rep. Mast speaks to Newsmax: Trump is the Patton-like leader necessary to reform the military
The U.S. military under the Biden administration has been focusing extensively on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, prompting Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., to suggest that it needs a strong and dynamic leader like Gen. George Patton to bring about a change, as he told Newsmax on Monday.
Mast, a military veteran who received several awards during his service, including a Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal for Valor, a Purple Heart, and a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, expressed that the closest individual to Patton in his lifetime is former President Donald Trump.
He emphasized that the military should prioritize qualities like determination, winning, and a no-nonsense attitude, similar to Patton’s approach, which he believes is lacking in the current military ethos.
Regarding the Biden administration’s focus on DEI, Mast criticized the administration’s approach, suggesting that it aims to infuse DEI principles across all federal agencies, potentially sidelining conservative voices.
Mast also highlighted the importance of appointing the most qualified individuals for leadership positions based on merit, as opposed to political ideologies, to ensure a strong and effective military.
