Rep. Wenstrup Discusses Tough GOP Questions on Fauci with Newsmax

Retired Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who served as the public health voice during the COVID-19 pandemic, will face a tough line of questions from the House subcommittee investigating the response, says Rep. Brad Wenstrup, its chairman, in an interview with Newsmax on Sunday. 

The upcoming grilling, scheduled for Monday, follows the transcript release from Fauci’s closed-door interviews with the subcommittee earlier this year. Wenstrup, an Ohio Republican, highlighted several key details from these interviews that warrant further investigation. 

According to Wenstrup, Dr. Fauci’s statements during the interviews included controversial remarks about the origin of the six-feet distancing rule, the efficacy of masks, and the imposition of mandates on the American people. Wenstrup emphasized the importance of individual choice in vaccination decisions and criticized the enforcement of mandates. 

During the interviews, Fauci reportedly expressed regret over the mandates and acknowledged the public’s resistance. Wenstrup raised concerns over conflicting statements regarding gain-of-function research and questioned Fauci’s lack of oversight in reviewing grant applications. 

The committee’s inquiries will also focus on the internal management of Fauci’s agency, potential referrals to the Department of Justice, and the use of private email accounts for official communication. 

Recent testimonies from other key figures, such as EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak and Dr. David Morens, have shed light on Fauci’s involvement in funding gain-of-function research in China. Wenstrup criticized Fauci’s lack of oversight over grant approvals and his repeated claims of memory lapses during questioning.
