Report: Biden’s Donations Decrease as Trump’s Rise

President Joe Biden’s reelection fundraising took a hit in April while former President Donald Trump’s campaign saw an increase in contributions, a concerning trend for Democrats.

In April, Biden’s campaign, associated committees, and the Democratic National Committee raised $51 million, a significant drop from the $90 million in March following a series of post-State of the Union events reported by Newsmax.

The Democrat incumbent is facing challenges in his bid for a second term in the White House, including poor polling and decreasing enthusiasm among his base.

“April’s fundraising reflects strong grassroots support,” said Biden campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez in a statement to Politico. “Trump’s campaign continues to lag behind ours in fundraising and organization efforts.”

According to Politico, Biden’s campaign spent $25 million in April, slightly lower than March’s spending levels. While advertising costs decreased, payroll expenses grew to nearly $3 million for 250 staffers.

In contrast, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised $76 million in April, as per a statement from the former president’s campaign. The campaign pointed out that Trump outpaced Biden despite spending less time in fundraising activities due to his legal battles.

Trump’s campaign spent only $5.5 million in April, with a significant portion allocated to direct mail and legal fees. The campaign had fewer staff members compared to Biden’s team.

While presidential campaigns are required to report funding details monthly, joint fundraising committees may not do so until July. The RNC’s change in leadership boosted Trump’s fundraising efforts, but the campaign continued to spend on legal matters.

The Save America PAC, aligned with Trump, spent $3.3 million on legal fees in April, including costs related to defending Trump in a New York paperwork trial.
