Republican Senators Request IRS Investigation into Anti-Israel Sponsorship

A group of 16 Republican senators has written a letter to the Internal Revenue Service, urging them to investigate the fiscal sponsor of National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) and other organizations that provide financial support to NSJP.

NSJP is a prominent activist organization responsible for organizing anti-Zionist protests, some of which express support for Hamas, on college campuses across the United States.

In the letter, the senators called on the IRS to look into the financial backers of NSJP, specifically mentioning AJP, the WESPAC Foundation, and the Tides Foundation, to determine if their tax-exempt status should be revoked.

The letter was led by Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, a strong critic of the protest movement. She stated, “The anti-Semitism we are seeing on college campuses is un-American. It is clear that these organizations should not benefit from our government while carrying out Iran-backed Hamas’s agenda in our country.”

Several other Republican senators, including Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, and Mitt Romney, also signed the letter.

WESPAC, a non-profit organization, sponsors NSJP and enables its tax-exempt status. The current head of WESPAC is Jewish activist Howard Horwitz.

Horwitz, who was raised in Orthodox Judaism but later distanced himself from the faith, once supported Zionism but changed his views after learning about the historical events of the Nakba and the treatment of Palestinians.

While condemning Hamas’s actions, Horwitz has also criticized Israel for what he sees as genocidal practices against Palestinians.

Despite Horwitz’s personal stance, NSJP has openly praised Hamas’s attacks as victories against the “Zionist enemy,” celebrating them as a disruption to Israel’s societal foundations.
