RFK Jr. Raises Concerns of Dad’s Assassination Following Secret Service’s Protection Denial
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, has claimed that the Secret Service has denied him protection despite his status as a presidential candidate. Kennedy stated on social media that candidates are typically provided Secret Service protection, but his request has been denied by the Biden administration. He reported that the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, said that Secret Service protection for him is not warranted at this time. Kennedy’s father was assassinated in 1968 while campaigning, and the assassination led to the implementation of a law that provides Secret Service protection to major presidential candidates. However, Mayorkas has the discretion to determine when such protection is offered. The agency takes into account various factors, including polling threshold and specific threats made against the candidate. Kennedy is running for the Democratic Party nomination against President Joe Biden and author Marianne Williamson. Currently, Biden is leading in the polls with 65.1% of the vote, while Kennedy is at 14.9%. Former President Donald Trump received Secret Service protection a year before the 2016 election.
