Sen. Thune tells Newsmax that Border Crisis was caused by Dereliction of Duty
Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., who is vying to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., as the Senate Republican leader, stated in an interview with Newsmax on Thursday that the nation’s border crisis is a result of the Biden administration’s “dereliction of duty.”
According to reports, over 8 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. during President Joe Biden’s term.
“A lot of Democrats believe in welcoming people and taking care of them, but the problem is that criminals, gang members, and individuals on the terrorist watch list are also taking advantage of our lax border security,” Thune told “The Record With Greta Van Susteren.” “This poses a national security threat.
“The porous border has allowed people to come in at will, not just in border states but across the entire country.”
Thune highlighted the toll the crisis has taken on major cities like Chicago and New York, which are struggling with an influx of migrants, both those bused in by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and others.
“While America is a nation of immigrants, it is also a nation of laws, and individuals must adhere to those laws,” he emphasized. “We need to know who is in our country and ensure they enter legally.”
Thune criticized the Biden administration for allowing a massive influx of illegal immigrants and failing to uphold the duty of enforcing immigration laws.
Thune, 63, believes he can provide effective leadership as McConnell’s successor, advocating for a new generation of conservative leaders to address the challenging issues facing the country.
He also expressed skepticism about the accomplishments touted by Biden in his State of the Union address, emphasizing the negative impact on American families due to rising prices, inflation, open borders, and reduced energy independence.
