Senator Cornyn Unconcerned About Potential Challenge from Paxton in 2026
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, expressed confidence when asked about a potential primary challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2026.
“I’m not too worried about it. During my last election, I faced several primary opponents and still received 76% of the vote,” Cornyn stated, as reported by The Hill.
“Contested primaries actually help you become a better candidate in the general election, in my experience.”
In September 2023, Paxton criticized Cornyn for being in Washington too long and not having any real competition.
“He’s been in office for about 14 years, but I can’t think of any significant accomplishments for our state or the country. We also have a significant immigration issue in our state,” Paxton said.
