Senator Ron Johnson accuses Senator Schumer of being ‘Disingenuous’ regarding Border Bill
Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for reintroducing the failed Senate border bill, calling it a “political ploy” to provide cover for Democrats under President Joe Biden’s administration. Johnson accused Schumer of being “disingenuous” and using the bill as a way to deflect from the failures of Biden’s border policies.
During an interview on WABC 770 AM-N.Y.’s “The Cats Roundtable”, Johnson argued that Schumer’s actions were not negotiating in good faith and criticized his tactics for pushing the failed bill. He highlighted the lack of bipartisan support for the bill, with Republicans recognizing the need to reinstate former President Donald Trump’s border policies to address the crisis at the border.
The unsuccessful Senate bill aimed to address key issues such as the Remain in Mexico policy, ending catch and release, completing border wall construction, implementing Title 42 health emergency powers, and reinstating Asylum Cooperative Agreements with Northern Triangle countries. Republicans, including Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., ultimately withdrew support for the bill due to Democrats’ refusal to acknowledge the failures of Biden’s border policies.
Johnson concluded that Schumer’s actions were solely aimed at providing political cover for Biden and criticized the lack of progress in securing the border. He emphasized the need for effective policies to address the crisis and expressed disappointment in the political maneuvers employed by Democrats.
