Stormy Daniels returns to witness stand for cross-examination

Donald Trump’s lawyers will toughly question Stormy Daniels on Thursday, aiming to discredit her account of a 2006 sexual encounter. Her story led to the first criminal trial of a former president.

Daniels’ detailed description of her sexual encounter with Trump captivated jurors and brought attention back to the more scandalous aspects of his presidency. However, Trump’s legal team managed to raise doubts about her credibility.

During questioning, Daniels admitted to not always telling the truth about the encounter and disclosed her refusal to pay Trump over $500,000 in a failed defamation lawsuit. She struggled to provide a clear explanation for accepting money from Trump to keep quiet and expressed her disdain for him, hoping he would be imprisoned if found guilty.

Trump’s lawyer, Susan Necheles, accused Daniels of trying to profit from the encounter and fabricating parts of her story. Daniels acknowledged giving conflicting statements over the years regarding her relationship with Trump.

While Daniels’ testimony may not significantly impact the case or voters’ opinions, it still frustrated Trump, who received a warning for appearing to intimidate the witness. The trial, seen as the least significant of Trump’s legal battles, faces uncertain timelines due to delays in other cases against him.
