Former President Donald Trump has issued a statement praising the election win of German conservative opposition leader Friedrich Merz.

On Sunday, initial exit polls indicated that the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged victorious in the national elections, leading to Merz’s claim of victory and the ousting of incumbent Social Democrat Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“IT APPEARS THAT THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY IN GERMANY HAS CLINCHED THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ELECTION,” Trump remarked in a post on Truth Social. “MUCH LIKE IN THE USA, THE PEOPLE OF GERMANY HAVE GROWN TIRED OF THE UNREASONABLE AGENDA, PARTICULARLY IN REGARDS TO ENERGY AND IMMIGRATION, THAT’S PERSEVERED FOR SO LONG.
“THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT DAY FOR GERMANY AND FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF A GENTLEMAN NAMED DONALD J. TRUMP,” he continued. “CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL — MANY MORE VICTORIES AHEAD!!!”
CDU leader Merz is anticipated to adopt a tougher stance on immigration compared to Scholz. He has outlined a 15-point plan aimed at addressing immigration issues, which includes enhancing border security and deporting denied asylum seekers.
While Merz will need to form a coalition with one or more other parties, he has stated that he will not collaborate with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), who secured a strong second place in the polls.
