Trump Refutes Any Misconduct, Criticizes Special Prosecutor over Recent Allegations
Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing in relation to allegations that he ordered employees at his Florida resort to delete security tapes sought by federal investigators. The former president made the denial in response to new charges filed against him by U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith. These charges bring the total to 40 counts against Trump, with one of his employees, Carlos De Oliveira, also being charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice and lying to the FBI. De Oliveira is accused of helping Trump hide documents and deleting the security videos after they were subpoenaed. Trump claims that the charges and the investigation are politically motivated, stating that they are part of an effort to “Get Trump” and that they are “rabid, lawless prosecutors” engaging in “Third World intimidation.” Trump also stated in an interview that he believed he was not required to hand over the security tapes but did so anyway. Furthermore, he asserted that he would not end his 2024 presidential campaign even if he were convicted and sentenced on the charges against him.
