Trump to Hold Meeting with Speaker Johnson and NRCC Chair Hudson

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., in Florida next week, as reported by Axios.

Trump, who is considered the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, along with Johnson and Hudson, will convene at Mar-a-Lago on Monday to discuss November election strategies, according to Axios.

For the upcoming election, Republicans will be aiming to maintain control of the House, currently holding a 218-213 seat advantage.

Johnson is also expected to join Trump in a closed-door meeting with Senate Republicans later this week.

Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, the chair of the GOP conference, extended an invitation to Trump, which was accepted.

“I believe it will be helpful to hear directly from President Trump about his plans for the summer and to also share our ideas for a strategic governing agenda in 2025,” Barrasso wrote to fellow Republican senators, as reported by NBC News.

Following Trump’s conviction in his New York case, the GOP’s House and Senate campaign arms experienced their most successful one-day online fundraising efforts of the cycle, as per The Hill.

The NRCC collected over $300,000 on May 30, while the NRSC raised $360,000.

“The American people are demonstrating their dissatisfaction with how the justice system was misused to convict President Trump. They are showing their support for Joe Biden and House Democrats’ unfair treatment, and they will express their final judgment with their votes this November,” stated NRCC National press secretary Will Reinert, as reported by The Hill.

House Republicans are proceeding with their inquiries into the Justice Department and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg following Trump’s felony conviction.

A House vote on whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress is planned for as soon as Wednesday.
