Trump’s attorney, Scharf, tells Newsmax that prosecutors have yet to prove their case.

Former President Donald Trump’s attorney, Will Scharf, told Newsmax on Wednesday that any fair jury would acquit Trump of all charges in his New York City legal expenses case. Scharf stated that the prosecution has not presented enough evidence to prove that Trump committed any wrongdoing.

Scharf praised Trump’s lead trial counsel, Todd Blanche, for effectively dismantling the prosecution’s case during closing arguments. He highlighted eight reasons that jurors could consider before casting their votes.

The jury is set to deliberate on Wednesday after receiving instructions from Judge Juan Merchan following the conclusion of closing arguments on Tuesday night.

Scharf criticized the prosecution for focusing on a 2016 election conspiracy and pointed out gaps in their case. He emphasized that there is no evidence to suggest that Trump violated any laws in this matter.

Scharf avoided speculating on the jury’s timeline for reaching a decision but described the case as straightforward. He asserted that Trump had minimal involvement in the creation of the business records central to the case.

Regarding the charges related to the Federal Election Campaign Act, Scharf noted that the prosecution did not clearly articulate the allegations against Trump. He mentioned their reluctance to allow an expert witness to testify on federal election law.

In response to reports about the Secret Service discussing the possibility of Trump serving time in jail if convicted, Scharf maintained that Trump is entitled to Secret Service protection even in jail as a former president.

Scharf criticized the judge for suggesting possible sanctions, including jail time, for Trump if convicted. He characterized the situation as politically motivated and argued that Trump’s opponents are trying to silence him.

He concluded by suggesting that the prosecution’s delay tactics had been unsuccessful, as the jury pushed to expedite the proceedings. Scharf expressed optimism about the outcome of the case based on these developments.
