Whitaker calls Trump’s impeachment proceedings a ‘complete legal stretch’ in Newsmax interview

In a recent interview with Newsmax, former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker expressed his disapproval of the legal proceedings involving former President Donald Trump.

Whitaker anticipated that former White House aide Hope Hicks might provide insights into “insider day-to-day White House” activities during her testimony in Trump’s New York hush money payment trial. He pointed out that the core of the case revolves around the alleged alteration of business records while appearing on “America Agenda.”

According to Whitaker, Hicks’ testimony is not crucial to the case’s foundation, as the main issue is the accusation of falsifying business records.

When discussing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s objectives, Whitaker dismissed any connection between the case and election interference, describing it as a legal stretch. He argued that the trial’s focus on federal election violations lacked merit.

Whitaker also raised concerns about the impartiality of Judge Juan Merchan due to his daughter’s involvement in the trial. He suggested that Merchan should recuse himself to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest stemming from his daughter’s financial ties to the case.

In criticizing the selective prosecution of Trump, Whitaker highlighted the disparities in how various political figures have been treated in legal matters. He pointed out that Trump was the only one facing scrutiny for alleged misdeeds, while others like Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Mike Pence, and Barack Obama were not pursued in a similar manner.

Whitaker condemned multiple cases against Trump, including those in Manhattan, Fulton County, and Washington, D.C., predicting their eventual weakening.
