Better late than never: NYT’s finally addressing DEI issues
Wow: It seems even the New York Times is wising up to the truth of DEI, namely that the policies that claim to promote “diversity, equity and inclusion” actually do the opposite — with disastrous consequences.
Welcome to reality.
In a mammoth piece published Wednesday, the Gray Lady reports that the University of Michigan’s uber-woke program, “the largest D.E.I. bureaucracy of any big public university,” has not only “helped fuel a culture of grievance” that has boosted racial tension and deepened division, it’s made the entire campus miserable.
And the school has actually become less inclusive, as “students were less likely to interact with people of a different race or religion or with different politics.”
Duh: When your every comment risks being run through a bureaucratic grievance machine that exists to find fault and label everyone as either an “oppressor” or the “oppressed,” human interaction becomes a minefield — and sticking with a crowd that looks and thinks like you seems the only safe choice.
It’s no surprise, then, that DEI is hurting the very people it’s supposedly meant to help: Since U of M began its DEI onslaught, minority students “were less likely to report ‘feelings of being valued, belonging, personal growth and thriving.’”
In fact, everyone suffers under DEI dictatorship: “In a survey released in late 2022, students and faculty members across the board reported a less positive campus climate than at the program’s start and less of a sense of belonging.”
Lefty media have long resisted reporting on the harms of DEI, so the Times piece could signal a sea change.
But the “paper of record” is very late to the party.
